I needed something that could handle both cold and rain because our winters are usually a mixture of the two. These have been useful on wet commutes when ordinary gloves would eventually get damp inside. The waterproof outer keeps the rain out, while the heating helps when the temperature drops. The grip on the palms is another nice touch.
